Front of the Museum

Since the landing of Colonel Thomas Talbot at Port Talbot in 1803, there have been few families in Elgin County who at one time or another have not had a father, son, or daughter, serving in the armed forces of Canada.

Our area has a most enviable history in the defence of Canada and our Canadian way of life, both within our country and abroad. Many battle honours and awards, including even the Victoria Cross, have been won by gallant men and women of Elgin.

It is the intention of this museum to preserve the background and history of our Elgin Military ancestors, so that the youth of today, and tomorrow, may understand something of the life and times of those who so unselfishly fought for us.

Please use the menu to the left of the screen or come and visit us to learn more about the museum and the men and women who served in the armed forces from Elgin County. If you have relatives that served and need or have information on them please take a look at our Veterans Records page for the Information Request Form or contact us through the Contact page.

May we long remember the sacrifices made by the men and women of Elgin County in every major theatre of war since this country was founded, on land, on sea, and in the air.
